If you are experiencing domestic abuse, our experienced family law team can advise you on the legal protections available to help safeguard you and your children.
Domestic abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, or coercive and controlling behaviour. While many support organisations provide practical and emotional assistance, you may also need legal measures to ensure your safety.
Under Part IV of the Family Law Act 1996, you may be able to apply to the Family Court for:
A Non-Molestation Order - an order designed to prevent an individual from threatening, harassing, intimidating, or abusing you. Breaching a Non-Molestation Order is a criminal offence.
An Occupation Order - an order that can regulate who lives in the family home and, where appropriate, require the abusive person to leave the property for a specified period.
